As many of you know, the process for obtaining NC residency status for tuition purposes has recently changed. Residency determinations are now made by a centralized and largely automated system at the state level. Please see the attached presentation for more information on this change and how it may impact you. Instructions for obtaining a residency report using InfoPorte for students are also attached below.

If you do not have access to InfoPorte please contact: grad_residency@unc.edu

Residency Changes Information

Residency Data Reporting Instructions – InfoPorte

Enrolled students who are already NC residents should take no further action.

All students who wish to claim NC residency for tuition purposes must apply via the Residency Determination Service (RDS).

Any student who feels they have met the requirements for NC residency status should apply now – resident determinations are currently applied to the Spring 2019 term.

Students must notify UNC-CH when their residency status changes by entering their Residency Certification Number in their ConnectCarolina StudentCenter.

The criteria for obtaining NC residency has not changed (only the process and timing have changed).

The Graduate School remains a resource for our students and programs and will send updated residency information as it becomes available. Please send questions and feedback to grad_residency@unc.edu and visit https://gradschool.unc.edu/studentlife/resources/residency/ for additional information.
