Justine Grabiec:
I received the Student Lipman Research Award through the Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology, & Volcanology Division of GSA for my proposal entitled “Origin of K-Feldspar Megacrysts in Granite: A 3D Tomographic Study”, which was recognized at both the Penrose Circle and Student Award Reception and the MGPV-MSA-Geochemical Society Joint Reception at the GSA annual meeting. The grant supports my research of the formation of K-feldspar megacrysts in the Cathedral Peak Granodiorite in Yosemite National Park and associated field work.
Madelyn Percy:
My grant proposal, entitled “Tracing aerosol sources to soils on a tropical ocean island with Sr isotopes: San Cristóbal, Galápagos,” was given Outstanding Mention at the GSA’s Annual Fall Conference, given to proposals having exceptional merit in conception and presentation. The grant was fully funded and is paying for work that traces sources of aerosols across a climate gradient on San Cristóbal Island, Galápagos. Preliminary analysis of the data shows that sources for Sr and Pb may vary by elevation, and that the story of aerosol deposition at this equatorial site is far more complicated than originally expected!
