Zena Cardman NASA astronaut candidate profile pictureZena Cardman, UNC Marine Sciences alumna, is now a NASA astronaut candidate and will be at the NC Space Symposium on April 16th. Cardman will be the keynote speaker at the symposium, which is to take place from 1 to 5 pm. The symposium will be virtual this year and is free to attend. You must register to attend, and can do so here. The symposium is hosted by NC State.

Cardman is one of about a dozen former and current NC Space Grant scholars who will present during the event. Topics range from engineering and computer science to astronomy and life sciences. The variety is no surprise, as NASA and related industries have many needs. Even space explorers come from many disciplines. “There is no right way to become an astronaut,” Cardman explains in a recent interview. “There is no single path.”
