Dr. Hans Paerl (IMS, EMES, ESE) was quoted in an article from the Cape Cod Times about the threat of cyanobacteria, a type of algal bloom, to humans. He states that global warming and an increase of nitrogen and phosphorus in fresh water bodies have enabled cyanobacteria to expand and pose a large threat to the region. Cyanobacteria is harmful to humans and can be deadly for dogs, causing Cape Cod officials to monitor the waters for public safety.
