Title: Dynamics of African Easterly Waves
Abstract: African Easterly waves are the main synoptic-scale disturbances of the North African monsoon. They are also the primary precursors to tropical cyclones in the Atlantic. Many aspects of their origin, evolution and storm track structure are still poorly understood. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the basic properties of these disturbances and present some recent results from our group pertaining to their instability.
