Title: Meteoritic Evidence: Origins of Planets and their Oceans
Abstract: Dr. Denton Ebel, curator at the American Museum of Natural History, will review the most recent meteorite sample-based research that addresses the origins and compositions of the terrestrial planets including their oceans. He will discuss what “chondrites” are, what minerals condense from a hot disk around a star, planetary differentiation and volatile depletion, and other hot topics in planetary science. The lecture will be a “crash course in meteoritics” for geologists and astrophysicists alike.
