Seminar: Dr. Reide Corbett, ECU Dept. of Geological Sciences
April 19, 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
UNC Marine Sciences’ Professor Jaye Cable hosts a seminar presented by Reide Corbett, Ph.D.
Presenter Affiliation: East Carolina University Dept. of Geological Sciences, East Carolina University Institute of Coastal Science and Policy, and University of North Carolina Coastal Studies Institute
Title: Studying Sediment and Water Dynamics from North Carolina to the Western Antarctic
Abstract: Dr. Reide Corbett is jointly appointed between the Department of Geological Sciences, Institute for Coastal Sciences and Policy at East Carolina University and the UNC Coastal Studies Institute. He is a coastal oceanographer/geochemist with an overall scientific interest in the cycling of biologically-significant constituents (e.g., carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, iron) in coastal and open ocean environments. His research focuses on evaluating and quantifying pathways of nutrient and carbon delivery to the coastal ocean that have been either underestimated or potentially ignored altogether, such as groundwater discharge and advective transport associated with sediment disturbance. Dr. Corbett’s seminar will focus on recent research evaluating sediment transport processes in North Carolina and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as groundwater/surface water studies along the Western Antarctic Peninsula.
