Title: You can go home again: three decades of science at Carolina
Abstract: Beginning as an undergraduate at Carolina in 1986 through my current position of Director of the Institute for the Environment, I have been fortunate to have had an almost exclusively one institution career. I benefited from training in the Departments of Biology, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Marine Sciences, each of which had a substantial role in shaping my expertise and perspectives. Through my lab at the Institute of Marine Sciences I have conducted field and lab research targeting an improved understanding of human impact of shallow aquatic systems and seeking to develop remedial approaches to address negative impacts. I will discuss the arc of my professional life to date, will highlight key research, teaching, and engagement accomplishments, and share plans for the future.
