Some Surprising Impacts of Large-scale Orography on Global Climate

In this talk, I will briefly review the evidence that shows large-scale orography is a major reason why “Europe warm is winter”, why there can’t be an Ozone Hole in the Northern Hemisphere, and why El Nino peaks at the end of the calendar year. I will then test the hypothesis that the ocean overturning circulation is centered in the North Atlantic because of the presence of the Rocky Mountains.
