Seminar: Dr. David Johnston, Harvard University

September 16, 2015 @ 3:35 pm - 4:35 pm

Unlocking the environmental information stored in geological S isotope records. (Host: Marc Alperin) The sedimentary sulfur isotope record provides a catalogue rich with environmental and microbiological information. As the S cycle is tightly linked with that of carbon and oxygen (to name a few), lessons learned from S isotope studies carry the capacity to inform our understanding of planetary change on a variety of scales. In this talk, I will describe a series of studies aimed at unlocking this isotope record through directed microbiological work motivated by large-scale questions in Earth history.
