Title: Meeting environmental challenges is not always the end of the story

Abstract: Meeting environmental challenges is not always the end of the story. My group’s research focuses on nitrogen and carbon biogeochemistry in aquatic systems, very often centered around human disruptions of the nitrogen cycle.  We conduct field, experimental, and modeling efforts to improve our understanding of shallow aquatic systems, detail human impacts on those systems and, develop remedial approaches to address challenges resulting from both humans and nature.  A common theme of our work is exploring both the efficacy and unanticipated impacts of solutions to challenges in coastal aquatic systems.  I will provide an overview of our past, current, and future work and will discuss connections between my research program and my other roles at the Institute for the Environment and in sustainability at Carolina.
